Do Something for God

The writer of Ecclesiastes 12:13 wrote,"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His
commandments: for this is the whole duty of man."

Men like to "do" many things.

This is a world bent on entertainment.

"Give me something to do" is a common statement heard in today's society.

Video games, I-Pods, cell phones, and portable DVD players have all but eliminated the need for our children to use
their
imaginations.

The continual search for faster, easier, more fun,...is creating a generation of young people who require constant
entertainment
to be satisfied.

"Because I want to..." is a phrase I often hear, even in my own home.

But many are missing out on the one thing that matters most...God.

The scripture text said it well,"Let's hear what really matters." (paraphrased)

The writer, possibly Solomon, lays the foundation for true dedication to God.

Number one, you must "Fear God".

Does that mean you should cower in absolute terror at the thought of God?

No, but the Bible states in Matthew 10:28,"And fear not them which kill the body(man), but are not able to kill the
soul: but rather
fear him(God) which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." (emphasis mine)

God will be the ultimate judge. Where will you be found in light of His requirements?

Fearing God involves more than being afraid of Him. True fear of God will result in unwavering obedience to His law,
and a
reverential awe of who He is, and His abilities as the Almighty. Fearing God will enable you to yield to God absolute
authority
and control of everything you do.

Deuteronomy 10:12&13 says,"And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy
God, to walk
in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, To keep the
commandments of the Lord, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?" (emphasis mine)

Someone said recently,"You should try to please God in everything you do...to an extent."

That, sadly, is the mindset of many in today's society.

"It's ok to be a Christian if you don't take it too far."

I have heard and sensed that attitude so much that it makes me sick. That is exactly what Satan wants you to
believe. The "easy-
way-out" is not God's way.

Secondly, the writer of Ecclesiastes 10:13 wrote,"...and keep his commandments:"

God has rules.

You must face the facts, God has requirements for those who call themselves His people.

God said to Solomon in II Chronicles 7:14,"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and
pray, and
seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their
land."
(emphasis mine)

God has layed out the guidelines. It is up to you to follow them.

Where do you find these "guidelines"?

Start at Genesis 1:1 & end at Revelation 22:21.

The Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy in II Timothy 3:16&17,"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable
for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly
furnished
unto all good works."

The text stated,"...for this is the whole duty of man." (emphasis mine)

Your job on earth is to please God in all you do.

In every area of your life God wants to be involved.

Every decision you make should be scripturally and prayerfully based.

Every place you go should be acceptable according to God's standards.

Every word you say should be a word that would make God proud.

This "is" your duty, your job.

Why, you ask?

Ecclessiastes 10:14 tells you,"For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be
good, or
whether it be evil."  (emphasis mine)

Where do you stand right now?

If God were to require your soul now, what would the result be?

II Corinthians 6:2 says,"...behold, NOW is the accepted time; behold, NOW is the day of salvation.)”  (emphasis mine)
